Temperamental but kids love it anyway: My kids love this set, even though it rarely works as it is supposed to. The car often comes off the track, falls over in the tunnel or keeps going round and round in circles in the tunnel instead of going back onto the tracks. Fortunately my kids think these bugs are features -- watching it go round and round in the tunnel is kind of cool, and the kids and the dog think it is great fun to chase the car when it runs off the track. Still, I think it is a bit disappointing that it only get through the regular course about half the time, and only very rarely successfully gets through the overhead alternate track. It was a pain to put together. The clear plastic tunnel walls were very hard to fit, despite the combined efforts of my husband and I. At first we thought that our set was missing the special Glo car. We would have called Mattel for a replacement but when I was flattening the box to put it in the recycling I discovered that the car was in a tiny little compartment way up in one corner. If you open the box from the other end it would be very easy to miss the car as you can't see the cardboard compartment unless you use shine a flashlight into the box. I don't think the set is worth the full retail price, but amazon's 70% off price made it worthwhile.
Track arrived without a turbo glo car!!: The track set is supposed to include 1 turbo glo car. After putting the track together on my son's birthday, I realized that there was no car included, and regular Hot Wheels cars DO NOT work on this track. I called Hot Wheels/Mattel and was told they'd send me a voucher for a car. Only after telling them it was ridiculous to only send a voucher for what should have been in the package in the first place did the representative offer me a voucher for two cars (not exactly customer-service minded). I have tried Target & another regional Target-like store & have yet to find the cars, so I still have a useless cheaply made plastic track sitting in my family room. Needless to say, my son & I are NOT satisfied.
I threw it away...: I have never been as disappointed in a product for a child as this tunnel track. It was a nightmare to put together and never worked properly. It was a gift for a friend's grandson. After spending Christmas Day trying to assemble it, they brought it over to my house as nothing ever defeats me. I was so digusted that I got out a 33-gallon trash bag and threw it away; I was too mad to even pack it up and return it.
As new still in the box...: I purchased this as a gift for my two nephews assuming I could easily purchase an additional Turbo Glo car (the set includes only one). After searching retail stores, Amazon, and even the Mattel Hot Wheels website I cannot locate a single car except through private sellers and priced more than what I paid for the set. I am extremely disappointed in this product. PLEASE avoid purchasing ANY Turbo Glo track sets if intended for family fun and pray that the car does not get eaten by the dog!!!!
My boys love this set: It's odd when there are so many negative reviews, and one's own experience does not seem to match the experience of others. My three boys, ages 6, 8, and 10 have really enjoyed the Turbo Glo Tunnel set. Unlike many of the other Hot Wheels sets, which can be extremely finicky and quite often do not work as advertised, this one has been great fun. I assume it is partly due to the fact that it uses special cars designed just for this product. I did not find it difficult to put together. The clear plastic sheets that make the tunnel were a bit of a challenge, but once I got it in place, it worked just fine (though I had my doubts). The rest of the connections are really, in my opinion, better than the typical Hot Wheels set. I would say I'm a HW veteran to some extent, having played with them as a boy and now with my own kids. That might be part of the reason I didn't have trouble. Parents need to remember that kids don't mind if the toy doesn't work perfectly and consistently every single time. My boys liked the challenge of seeing if they could make all three of the orange arrows shoot off. We have not had battery issues, and I was surprised how long the cars would run on a single charge (we have three extra cars in addition to the one that came with the set), and how long the batteries have lasted in the charger. Our experience there has not been the same as others who have posted, but I don't know why. I do recommend getting a large storage bin for this item, so you don't have to take it completely apart every time you put it away. It makes it a lot easier to get out and play with the next time if you only have to attach a few sections together. For the current $12.15 price, this toy is truly a bargain. For less than $30 (the price for the set on other sites), you can get the track set plus two extra cars, and free shipping. Not a bad deal!
