Best "how to knit" product on the market!:
For years I have tried and failed to figure out the mysterious art of knitting. Then one day I came across this kit, and bought it just on a whim. Wow! The large needles (size 15) and the very thick soft yarn were SO easy to use! And the instructions were VERY clear. For the first time I was able to figure out how to cast on, and actually made a scarf following the enclosed pattern! Granted, it doesn't look perfect but still -- I made it! And now that I know what I'm doing (more or less!) I've bought some more yarn in a different color, and am going to make another scarf from the same pattern. It's really easy once you get the first section started! Oh, one more thing that's cool - if you have arthritis (like me), the super large size needles are VERY easy to manipulate. So - all in all - this Learn to Knit Kit has got me -- hooked!
Absolute beginner learned to knit in 30 minutes:
I bought this kit on a whim. I had never even thought about knitting before, never held a pair of needles. Within 30 minutes of opening the package I was knitting a hat! I am not a "crafty" person: don't know how to sew, crochet, scrapbook, embroider or anything. I admit that I had to follow the instructions very closely and trial and error definitely requires perseverance. However, like the other reviewer mentioned, the large needles and the large yarn make your first project nearly foolproof. I was amazed that in 2 nights after coming home from work I had created a matching hat and scarf. For such a low investment, it's worth a try!
Not so great for me, better for others:
The yarn and needles themselves were a great set. I couldn't make sense of the instructions, though, and passed the whole thing to my mother in law. She did quite well with it and finished a project off in no time at all. I ended up taking a class to get started knitting, so I think it just boils down to learning style. If you can learn a craft by reading, then this kit will probably work well for you.
I'm knitting like a pro now:
This was the perfect starter kit with easy to understand instructions. After learning the basics with this kit, I was quickly able to pick up other techniques and am knitting like a pro now!
