Nice Nailer but if you don't have a ton of framing to do.....:
Nice nailer, but if you are someone that doesn't have a ton of framing to do, be aware that you will have to purchase nails in the thousands. I am a homeowner who just needed to stud out a basement. I had trouble finding nails, for this nailer, in my area. I could not find any in my local home centers. I also had the problem of my local lumber yard not wanting to sell me a box of nails unless it said "Makita AN922" in the "compatible with" list on the side of the box. I ended up going to an industrial supply house which I found by going to the Makita Website. Then, the only quantities available were 4,000 for the 16d and 5,000 the 8d. The cost was close to 100.00 for the 2 boxes. This is more nails than I will ever use.... Lastly, I had to purchase reducers so I could connect my 1/4 " air hose. Toe nailing was tricky as I could not adjust the nailer to make the head penetrate. This very well may be my learning curve having never used a framing nailer before. Bottom line: Good price and it allowed me to put up a 14 foot stud wall in about an hour....normally it would have taken me several hours with a regular framing hammer.

Excellent Shooter:
I bought this gun on Amazon during the recent sale (it was an excellent sale). I used it this weekend for the first time after owning it for about a month. Couple of surprises for me - the air fitting I had from an old air tool (1/4") would not fit and I had to go out and purchase a bushing for it to fit the 3/8" threaded opening. No big deal - lack of planning on my part not checking before I was climbing the ladder. The second surprise was that the instruction book and Home Depot both told me it was 22 degree nails. I could not find any 22 degree nails anywhere and after a call to the regional Makita rep - found out it will work with 21 degree nails. So I bought a box and shot a bunch. I punched a 3 and a quarter nail through three pieces of walnut into a piece of oak (while testing depth settings). WOW. One more thing I should mention which is only a personal preference - I bought the nails with the plastic joiners and you have to watch the flying plastic when you fire the gun. I will try the wire joined nails at another time. Excellent gun - all I wanted it to be on the roof doing framing. This gun is a little overkill for the average homeowner but I use it when helping my friends do construction framing. If you can afford it, you won't be disappointed.

Top choice.:
I got a good deal on this, used it 2x, and bought another one. I'm glad I did; it's for me the best all around frame gun. It combines durability (taken a couple big falls no problem) with finesse like the adjustment knob and slide. Never jammed in a several boxes of nails. Like the slide. A nice detail is the rubber piece for doing finish work (used that 2 times) and how its held on the slide. The only nailgun I've seen that looks good (hitachis are hideous but good IMO). Good power when I nail advantek, it nailed well less than max depth, and does ok when I was nailing oak, although you still need to set the nails. Still better than others I've used. Great tool!

Good gun but..:
Round head nails are widely spaced in the strips as opposed to clip-headed nails. This means reloading twice as often. I bought my nails through Amazon, at a great price, even if shipping wasn't free as stated, and they got here before the gun.Personally I am very satisfied with the gun, but if I used it full time I would get a clipped head model.

Framing Nailer:
I like this nailer over all. I used this nailer mostly for single fire mode to attach nailers in remodel work. I am not a framer so it serves very little purpose compared to other reviewers. However, yesterday I put in some 1/2" sheathing and had the depth adjuster malfunction on me. Its like the wood was too hard for it so when it went to kick back after it fired the reprocussion was so strong that is would bump the depth adjuster to a different setting every time. It sucked, I was wondering at first if it was just me and after about two strips of nails I figured out that it was the nailer. After I stop trying to adjust the depth adjust anymore the thing went all the way down to #1 setting - which means the most depth. I don't know, I've used other nailers for sheathing in bump mode and we used the compressor for depth adjustment. This was the first time using a self adjusting nail setter but still it chopped me up that I had to drive a few unsung nails home after I set the gun down. I hope it is just me, that the wood was so old and dense and uncommon that the nailer was just new and I wasn't use to it but still I am thinking of buying something else that is a little more tested out there and works. No bueno. Just for note, this gun hasn't been tested throughly, I am basing this report off a less than 10 hours of use and that single use yesterday with sheathing. Anyways, good luck and happy hunting - for a nailer that is.
