Amazon.com Review:
The VTech VT1962 900 MHz digital cordless phone with call waiting/caller ID and digital answering machine has a wealth of features for your home or office. The phone is also compact and sturdy, with a base that can be wall mounted or placed on any flat surface. The VT1962 includes a digital answering machine that stores up to 15 minutes of messages in three separate mailboxes. You can designate a mailbox for each family member or use the function to separate your business and personal calls. The handy memo feature also lets you leave messages for family members in their digital mailbox. Once you set the security code for your answering machine, you can easily access messages from any touch-tone telephone. The VT1962 displays caller-ID information on the handset LCD, so you'll always know who's calling before you answer. The caller-ID memory can store up to 50 names and phone numbers, along with the time and date of each call. The left and right arrows on the keypad let you browse through both the list of callers in the caller-ID log and the list of 20 speed-dial numbers in the phone's directory. The VT1962 has a four volume levels that you set with the up and down arrows on the side of the handset. You can also plug in a compatible headset (not included) and use the included belt clip to make hands-free calls. The Page button on the base rings the handset, making it easy to find. In our tests, the VT1962 sounded very good. However, the digital signal was clear only up to 60 feet from the base, beyond which signal breakup became a distraction. This is only adequate performance for a phone in this class. But overall, we were satisfied with the feature set and sound quality of the VT1962. --Megan Dugan Pros: Clear signal with minimal interference Stores up to 20 frequently dialed numbers Digital answering machine Cons: Sound quality diminishes beyond 60 feet from base No speed-dial option from caller-ID memory

Amazon.com Product Description:
The VTech VT 1962 digital cordless phone has a 900 MHz frequency range, allowing you to move about your home while carrying on phone conversations. For busy households, the VTech VT 1962 has an integrated answering service with three separate mailboxes. You can store the numbers of up to 50 callers and keep 20 numbers on speed dial for one-touch calling. The handset has all the features you need to manage a series of calls at once. Caller ID and call waiting combine to let you know who is calling and when a second party is trying to reach you. Redial allows you contact the last number called, while the muting function lets you discuss the fate of telemarketers privately. If the headset is misplaced, the page function gives off a signal so you can find it. The base plugs into the wall, and the handset requires a single VSB battery. Included with the VTech VT 1962 are a VSB battery, a spare-battery charger with power backup, a belt clip to keep the phone nearby, and a wall mount bracket for the base. The VTech VT 1962 has a one-year warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship.

can't kill it:
It's a decent phone, with decent signal. BUT. It is built to take abuse. True story: thinking it had broken, I threw the handset at a brick wall; it shattered into several pieces that I put in the trash. A while later, I realized the culprit was not the phone, but the wall jack. I took the pieces out of the trash, shook off the coffee grounds, snapped it back together, with the floppy antenna and all - and used it for another two years. When the handset died, the answering machine chugged along like a pro and has performed flawlessly to this very day. I suspect if i hadn't smashed the phone, it would never have failed. I mean, it's built like a tank. If perfect sound is your goal, go elsewhere. If you want a phone that might last forever despite abuse - go with a V tech.

It didn't work for me:
I expected Vtech to be a better product. I've had nothing but problems with reception to low battery indicator after owning it for less than 9 months. The company was good enough to replace it once, but then the battery went out shortly thereafter, it was replaced and took about 2 days to charge.

A great phone:
I have read the other reviews for this phone and am surprised. I have had mine several days. Ya maybe the phone makes load beeps when you press keys but compared to most I have used this is an amazing phone. I don't care if it beeps a little, my purpose of a cordless phone is how far can I travel from the base unit and have good reception. I walked over 2 acres outside my house and had perfect reception!! Within 400 feet of the base unit, reception was flawless! I have gone thru several multi ghz phones whose reception was noisy in the next room. This 900MHz phone is a beauty!!! In fact, I going to buy several more and store just in case this one ever breaks.

A good phone:
Ok, I agree with some of the reveiws, but I had mine for four years. It has been from Hawaii to Pennsylvania, dropped by drunk friends, sat on for 3 hours (during wrestling pay per veiws), thrown at various people and animals, beer spilled on it, slammed in angry rage fits on the cradle just to name a few (I am not a lush but was in the Army). It finally died just a day ago. Loud beeps, oh well!! I liked it so much that I am ordering another from Vtech, I hope it does me as well as the old one!!!

A good phone that lasts:
I have had this phone for over a year and have had no problems with it. I mainly bought it for the spare battery charger which is very handy since this phone is in use a lot. The mailboxes are very handy since I really don't need to listen to my (adult) childrens messages. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment and I don't even need to extend the antenna on the phone to get clear reception. I agree that the base ringer is loud, but I also turned it off. The handset ringer is loud enough for me to hear anywhere in the apartment (unless it is in a room with the door closed). I would recommend this phone to those that don't need to have their phone too far from the base. For apartment dwellers, this is a perfect cordless phone.
