Quilters will find these more advanced references excellent: Cindy Needham's WHOLE CLOTH LINEN QUILTS: PATTERNS & DESIGNS tells how to transform linens into small quilts, using lace edging and antique-style embroidery to join and embellish linens. 100 quilting patterns are arranged by quilting category and provide full-size stencils for easy use. Quilters will find these more advanced references excellent, important library additions.
Okay, but limited information, loaded with quilting patterns: I found the book interesting because I like collecting old linens and the intersection of my quilting with the linen collection was intriguing to me. The book shows some nice examples, some useful fabric care information and has loads of quilting templates that the quilter can use. But, overall, this is really a collection of a few examples and a quick how-to sheet. I liked the examples that I saw and they DID inspire me to try my own project and the author states that her goal is to inspire. On the flip-side, it was a book I wish I had checked out of the library, rather than purchase. Or better yet, that I just saw a demonstration by the author. Not bad, just not terrific.
Disappointed: I was disappointed with this book. It is specifically for using old linen items like doileys and pillows - there are no actual ideas for full size(bed) quilts, despite the title of the book! The quilting patterns are good - but no different from other quilting design books. Despite the front cover saying 'Pattterns & Designs', there are no size or cutting instructions for any items - all the work is done on existing finished items.
Best Wholecloth Pattern book out there!!: Cindy Needham has out done herself with this fantastic collection of Wholecloth Patterns & Designs. I will be using this book for years!!
