Four CDs, 73 tracks, one rock & roll legend: Thin Lizzy's Vagabonds, Kings, Warriors and Angels contains all you need to know about the greatest bar room rock & roll band ever to inspire heavy drinking and boisterous behaviour. You can actually hear the early trio of Phil Lynott, Eric Bell and Brian Downey learn their instruments on CD1, with fluffed changes and loose timekeeping adding up to a suitably rough & ready charm. Lynott's roguish demeanour propelled Lizzy as much as the twin guitar acrobatics of Gorham and Robertson throughout the classic line years, of course, and every bad boy tear is here in full: "Still In Love", "Don't Believe A Word", "Sarah"--the list goes on and on. Lizzy knew their way around a killer pop tune as well and many of their anthems are all-time classics. "The Boys Are Back In Town", naturally (and if you've never screamed "the jukebox in the corner blasting out my favourite song!" you sorely need these CDs); "Dancing In The Moonlight" (a brilliant live version); "Alibi"; again the list is endless. The story ends with the band's heavier years, from "Killer On The Loose" to the much undervalued "Cold Sweat" and at the final, emotional reckoning, Thin Lizzy are vagabonds, kings, warriors, angels and, ultimately, heroes. --Ian Watson
