Phillipe Zdar (one of the most important figures in late-1990s French music; as half of Motorbass, he made the classic Pansoul) brings something new to the now-familiar Paris sound--a touch of speed garage. It's nothing too heavy--slightly dubby house is still the plat du jour--but Zdar, with new collaborator Boombass, quickens the pace, and in doing so offers a new perspective on the most musically fashionable city of the 1990s. In doing so, the Cassius duo drop a lot of the cool in favour of just having fun. The title track, with its relentless "sunshine!" sample, hums with optimism and warmth.
