This sixth album in the Red Hot series (which benefits AIDS relief and prevention education) aims at the burgeoning indie rock market and features a surprisingly diverse and interesting lineup. There are numerous one-off supergroups involving members of some popular indie bands, and, while the permutations are all too complex to detail in this review, I'll just mention Sebadoh, The Spinanes, Lois, Guided By Voices, and Tsunami. The tracks all seem to be exclusive to this compilation--a definite bonus. Most of the material is on the eclectic side, but it is by no means difficult. Built to Spill/Caustic Resin, The Grifters, Gastr del Sol, Heavenly, and Freedom Cruise (one of those darn supergroups) all offer tracks that made me smile, but there is something here literally for anyone with an open mind.
